Year 3
Miss Berresford and Mrs Lambert
In Year 3, our reading into writing text in Autumn is 'Fantastic Mr Fox' by Roald Dahl, a story about three farmers, the villains, out to get Mr. Fox, who takes food from their farms. After shooting off his tail, Boggis, Bunce and Bean spend the rest of the time waiting for the foxes to reappear. Mr Fox comes up with a cunning plan, but will it work?
The children will be writing a diary entry from the perspective of Mr Fox and a set of instructions on how to catch a sneaky fox or how to escape the farmers. The children will explore expanded noun phrases, time conjunctions and commas in a list during this unit. We have a key focus on vocabulary across school.
Our reading corner is based around the theme of 'Where will reading take you?' This area is an inviting, comfortable space, with blankets and cushions so they children can spend time exploring their love for reading with lots of different text types. They created some beautiful hot air balloon artwork, using poster paint to create patterns.
To compliment our English learning, the children created fantastic artwork of Mr Fox himself! They worked extremely hard and focused on detail and colour. Well done Year 3!
Within the classroom there are a number of resources for the children to access independently including bright, interactive working walls to support children during independent tasks using our ‘Buddy, Book, Board’, 3 before me strategies. All children are able to use these and they are updated regularly to reflect the work we are doing and assist pupils to succeed.
In our classroom, it is vital that all children can access the learning we are doing, progression is paramount. Over the course of the year we learn many concepts within a broad and balanced curriculum; please see our class overview for a full range of learning opportunities that we will cover this term.
